How is that New Year’s Resolution going?

Don’t you remember? It was just the other night, New Year’s Eve, when you told everyone about your New Year’s resolution. The question is have you abandoned it just like the one you made last year, and the one the year before? After all, most of us have long since abandoned our resolutions.

I’ve made a lot of New Year’s resolutions that I failed to keep, too. In fact, I’m probably the last person to who should be giving advice. I have failed at almost every resolution I have ever made. That is until I asked Jesus to help me with my request. In January of 2009 I made a resolution to read through the Bible. I thank God that this January 2012 I started reading through the Bible for the fourth consecutive year. I share my success to boast in my weakness. Without Christ, I could not have even imagined doing this.

Perhaps you hadn’t thought about turning to Christ for help with this type of thing. After all, our New Year’s resolutions normally aren’t life-and-death matters, so why worry God with such a trivial thing? God cares as much about the small things as He does about the more serious request that we could possibly give Him. He makes no distinction between the two.  If your New Year’s resolution is important to you, then it’s also important to God.

Paul proudly proclaims in the fourth chapter of Philippians “For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength” (Philippians 4:13 NLT)
